April 20th's walkout, responding to the February 14th shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL, also marks the 19 year anniversary of the Columbine shooting in 1999. "I am going to complain about a problem but not willing to make a change, then what right do I have to say about it".

Lora Wimsatt, communications director for Daviess County Public Schools, said she checked with county schools and had not heard of any activity associated with the day of action.

Across the nation, students walked out of class at the same time in each time zone to observe a moment of silence for shooting victims, and push for gun reform.

A planned student walkout at Owensboro High School to protest a lack of legislative progress to curb incidents of gun violence in schools didn't occur Friday as school officials channeled student concerns into other avenues.

"I'm scared to think that my life could end in one second because of a gun", said Amanda Demelo, a Skyline High School sophomore.

One of the organizers of the event, Ainsley Moench, said when she first heard about the Parkland shooting, she "just thought of it as another shooting before it really hit me that it was like 17 students that were killed that were my age".

"Them bringing weapons is extremely inconsiderate for the survivors and the people who have been affected by gun violence, because they have real PTSD", Harb said.

In March, events were offered, coordinated through the schools. Others stayed at school to discuss gun control and register their peers to vote.

"A lot of times our voice is not heard, and so I think just getting our bodies here to say we are here, we are part of this conversation, you can not shut us out [is important]", said Alejandro Eduarte, a junior at Edison Senior High School in Minneapolis.

Students were given the chance to voice how they feel about gun violence in schools while parents and community members joined in with signs to show support.

Protests were held at West Valley, Hutch and Lathrop. where we meet Julia Laude with more details.

Measures the teens ask for include banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; closing a loophole in background checks for those purchasing guns online or at gun shows; and adding mandatory waiting periods between the purchase and delivery of firearms.

We spoke to some of these students to see why they protest.

Geismar said that students from about 35 schools from the city and from New Jersey and CT participated in the walkout.

"I feel like things have gotten worse these last few years", said Emma Corcoran, a 15-year-old from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in Maryland, at a rally in Washington. We keep talking. We keep working. "So it's good to be out here showing what we believe in and making sure students have the information they need to vote".

Meanwhile, in CT, the students put up a sign on a fence by the football field that read, "Can't hear us now?"
