  • Nestlé Inks Deal to Sell Starbucks Products World-Wide

Let's take a look at how ETFs with Nestle and Starbucks exposure are doing Monday at 11 a.m. It's now adding Starbucks coffee and tea products to the list.

The chain's executive chairman Howard Schultz, who says his vision for Starbucks came after a trip to Milan in 1983, had originally slated the opening of the new branch in the northern Italian city for early a year ago. Nestle is focusing on coffee as a main growth area and has already made some acquisitions in the sector. Meanwhile, Starbucks has said that it will use the cash to boost share buybacks. It said the deal would add to earnings per share by 2021. The company had originally slated the opening of its first Italian branch for early previous year but the project began to run behind schedule and as delays mounted Starbucks chose to take on Italy's coffee drinkers with a landmark opening. This includes speeding up its share buyback plan.

In addition to the cash payment, Starbucks will receive revenue from product sales and royalties.

Nestle has announced that it will pay Starbucks $7.1bn (£5.2bn) to sell the company's coffee into homes. Instead, chief executive officer Mark Schneider is harnessing the name recognition of Starbucks, with its 28,000 outlets around the globe and massive draw in the U.S. Nestle has struggled there for years with its own products like Nespresso and Dolce Gusto.

"This is all about growth", Schneider told analysts.

JAB Holdings, the private investment firm of Europe's billionaire Reimann family, has fueled the consolidation wave with a series of deals including Douwe Egberts, Peet's Coffee & Tea and Keurig Green Mountain, narrowing the gap with Nestle.

Nestle's spokesman said that the company is excited to sell Starbucks. It had been losing ground in the United States confectionery sector as rivals moved towards healthier products.

Nestle shares rose 1.1 percent as of 12:07pm in Zurich. A willingness to pay for exotic beans and speciality drinks means companies can brew up richer profit margins than in mainstream packaged food.
