BILL TOO? Clinton Says He DOESN’T Owe Monica Lewinsky an Apology

  • Clinton ‘Impeachment hearings would have begun’ for a Dem president

Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter Monday morning to lampoon former President Bill Clinton for a "ballsy" performance on NBC's "Today" show.

Former President Bill Clinton was shredded online after he said on Monday's "Today" show that he does not owe Monica Lewinsky a personal apology - and no one was more offended than #MeToo advocate Rose McGowan.

The 42nd president added that he "felt terrible" during the fallout from his relationship with Lewinsky, who's now 44, but he "came to grips with it".

In an interview that turned testy, Clinton said he had apologized "to everybody in the world" for the 20-year-old episode but acknowledged he had not spoken directly to Lewinsky about the affair. Just don't ask him about Monica Lewinsky.

"I have never talked to her", Clinton told interviewer Craig Melvin of NBC News.

In a piece in the March issue of "Vanity Fair", Lewinsky wrote that the #MeToo movement had helped clarify her thinking about the affair, which she had previously characterised as fully consensual. "Two-thirds of the American people sided with me". "I'm sorry to say I don't have a definitive answer yet on the meaning of all of the events that led to the 1998 investigation; I am unpacking and reprocessing what happened to me". But Clinton himself was a controversial president, and as his fictitious hero weathers potential impeachment early on, it draws parallels to his own life as well.

But critics were "omitting facts" and grouping him in with those accused of harassment, he said.

Migrant Children At The Border
Former GOP Senator from Pennsylvania Rick Santorum even tried placing the blame on the children's parents . During President Barack Obama's second term, the government prosecuted roughly 70,000 cases per year.

"You have to really ignore what the context was", Clinton said.

"I support the Me Too movement and... think it is long overdue, and I have always tried to support it in the decisions and policies that I advanced", he continued.

Responses to his comments were mixed.

Trump "hasn't gotten anything like the coverage that you would expect", Clinton said. "And his voters don't seem to care". "I defended the Constitution", Clinton said, before acknowledging that while he publicly apologized at the time to Lewinsky and her family, he never personally offered his contrition.

At one point, Patterson, whose series of mystery books are hugely popular, appeared to have had enough.

As the interview went on, Clinton grew increasingly frustrated by the course of discussion, ending the conversation with a straightforward presentation of facts: "This was litigated 20 years ago". But you know, [Gillibrand is] living in a different context. "Stop it already", Patterson said. He was the most powerful man on the planet.
