  • Trump barrels into G-7 summit, ready to fight US allies

Trump tweeted, referring to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Trudeau used a media conference on Saturday to reject a U.S. demand for a sunset clause in the North American trade agreement, Nafta, that Trump has at different times pressed to abolish or renegotiate.

Trump's decision to withdraw his support for the communique has drawn sharp criticism from European countries.

Figures that Trump cites in his tweets have often been found to be incorrect or misleading. Meanwhile, Canada is the top export market for the US, which had an $8.4 billion surplus with the country in 2017, according to the Office of the United States Trade Representative.

In response to Mr Trump's decision to withhold United States support for the summit conclusions, a senior UK government source said: "We stand by the commitments made in the G7 communique". "Then Justin acts hurt when called out!".

"To our allies: bipartisan majorities of Americans remain pro-free trade, pro-globalization & supportive of alliances based on 70 years of shared values", he wrote Saturday. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also called Trudeau's comments a stab in the back to Trump.

Mr Trump's salvo capped a rollecoaster two days of controversies that began with his suggestion Russian Federation be readmitted to the G7, then what a French official described as a "rant" full of "recriminations" against USA trading partners, followed by a denial of any tensions with leaders at the summit and his description of their relationship as a "10".

A spokesman for Merkel said the other G7 members stand by their communique. He did him a favor and he was even willing to sign that socialist communique. That was a part of Trudeau's mistake.

In a flurry of tweets from Air Force One, en route to Singapore for a historic summit with North Korea's Kim Jong-un, Trump accused Justin Trudeau, Canada's prime minister and host of the summit in Quebec, of being "very dishonest".

"I understand the president was upset", Mr. Feinstein told CNN.

"What we have is a country here in the United States, which has the lowest tariffs in the world, lowest non-tariff barriers in the world", said Peter Navarro, a White House trade adviser, on CNN in March.

Navy vessels also sailed near China-controlled islands in what Mattis called "an affirmation of the worldwide rules-based order". France and the United Kingdom will challenge Beijing by sailing through contested waters in the South China Sea.

He said that Canada has to stand up for itself.

Trudeau has vehemently opposed the imposition of tariff on U.S. import of Canadian steel and aluminium and has threatened with retaliatory measures.

Trump took another swipe at his northern neighbour on Sunday, suggesting on Twitter that Canada is "bragging" in an unspecified release about benefiting from US trade.

And Roland Paris, a former foreign policy adviser to Trudeau, jabbed on Trump on Twitter: "Big tough guy once he's back on his airplane". Can't do it in person.

"Justin acts hurt when called out!" the USA president said in his latest Tweet.

Noting the USA imposition of tariffs was officially stated as a national security consideration, Freeland said: "We are very clear that Canada does not pose a national security threat to the United States".

Prime Minister Theresa May of Britain issued a statement through an aide saying she was "fully supportive of Justin Trudeau". "$800 Billion Trade Deficit." he tweeted. "We have seen this with the climate agreement or the Iran deal".

"Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Mr. Trudeau said.

A few hours earlier, Trudeau had told reporters that all seven leaders had come together to sign the joint declaration.

The president's latest tirade comes after a war of words erupted between the United States and its G7 allies following Mr Trump's decision to reject a joint communique at the end of a tense summit in Quebec on Saturday.

He contrasted Trudeau's behavior during the meetings, which he characterized as "so meek and mild" with him calling the tariffs "kind of insulting" and saying Canada "will not be pushed around" after the president left.
